We recently had the delight of a week long visit from our California parents.
It was a highly anticipated trip for many reasons, and we all (dogs included) are still coming down from what a great time it was to have some of our most precious souls with us for a little while.
Mum loves cardinals, but she went her whole life not seeing one until a previous visit to our house. I always knew she loved them, but I didn’t know she had never seen one in real life until that day several months ago that she squealed with delight when her first one was spotted.
This time they came to visit, I was eager to step up our bird feeder game in hopes that my mother’s cardinal watching would be plentiful.
I am thrilled to report, it was!

Three weeks before their visit, I kept feeders in the front and back of the house consistently full- right in line with our two best viewing windows.
Standing there with my mother, watching her joy at the cardinals coming and going, the excitement she had with every bird that shared their beauty with us was one of my most treasured memories from their trip. What a gift to witness her joy.
Planning, sharing, and witnessing another persons joy makes my heart soar like few other experiences. What a delight to see someone in pure bliss…and over something that was so easy on my part to facilitate!
There were countless wonderful moments on their Feb 2019 pilgrimage to Tennessee and their time with us at our little home, but this simple moment is etched into my mind, and I hope it stays there forever.
I would even venture to say that the cardinals coming to visit was more of a gift to me than to her.
