Chicken Snuggles.

I latched onto Violet when we first brought her home. She and Sweet Pea were our Homestead Christmas gifts, but she was extra special to me from the start.

Violet spent extra time in the house, rode on my shoulder, and has more than once jumped up into my lap when exploring the yard and getting startled by something (usually a big something- Logan).

We have had many moments of backyard kisses and snuggles, with gentle and trusting Sweet Pea too. They roam the yard inseparably together- never more than 4 or 5 feet apart.

Violet and Sweet Pea are 6 months old now- the entrance into being “full grown” for a chicken.I loved our special snuggle time- both in the house and her coming to me for rescue outside. I treasured all those moments, and definitely did not expect Violet would still be riding shotgun on my shoulder in the backyard at full grown hen size.

And yet, she has had some shoulder rides at full grown age! She reminds me sometimes of Chip Beak, the first hen that made a massive impression on us. There are some ways their personalities are different, but there are alot of ways they are similar.
It’s special how animals can be “just another chicken” or truly a sweet little friend. I’m so thankful to have her in our flock, and for the joy she continues to bring to our home.
