Volunteering.

Truth- we are not always in the mood to volunteer.

My husband and I met at a therapeutic riding center, and that specific realm of volunteer work has been a major part of my life for 15 years.

After settling down in our area of Tennessee, we again started volunteering at the therapeutic riding center closest to us. It’s valuable, sentimental, meaningful work and we both truly enjoy it.

But, we often struggle with the practicality of taking time out of our evenings to go volunteer for a couple hours, when we could be at home relaxing or using our sweat on our own little patch of land.

The discipline of showing up every week is not always easy, especially leaving work early to go work some more (and typically sweat significantly) rather than going home and getting started on our evening together.

But, every single time, we leave the barn filled with gratitude and perspective from choosing to invest our time and talent intentionally in something that is genuinely such meaningful work.

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
